Teaching Experience

Dr. Terriann Crisp has served as an academic pharmacologist for almost 30 years. She earned her Ph.D. from Marshall University School of Medicine in 1985 prior to completing a postdoctoral research fellowship at Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center. Dr. Crisp worked through the academic ranks as a medical pharmacologist at Northeast Ohio Medical University College of Medicine and Des Moines University. She recently retired from her position as Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Des Moines University and founded Crisp Enterprises: Pharmacology Instruction and Consultation, LLC. Dr. Crisp is now pursuing expanded teaching and consulting opportunities on a broader national and international scale.

Dr. Crisp has served as a question writer and reviewer for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and currently provides Pharmacology Step-1 United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) review courses. She worked with Kaplan Medical for 5 years and now serves as an instructor with Becker™ Professional Education. Dr. Crisp recently published a Step-1 Pharmacology USMLE Flash Card series with The McGraw-Hill Companies.

Scholarly Activity and Research Interests

Dr. Crisp served as a productive investigator for over 25 year has been the recipient of numerous extramural (NIH-funded) and intramural research grants. Dr. Crisp’s primary areas of research focused on investigating age-related differences in the perception and treatment of acute and chronic (neuropathic) pain disorders. She studied the role of oxidative stress in peripheral nerve injury. The goal of these experiments was to determine if antioxidants would be efficacious in treating chronic neuropathic pain disorders. The results of these studies are published in the scientific and medical research journals listed in her Curriculum Vitae.

Services Provided by Crisp Enterprises

Pharmacology courses/lectures are customized to meet the specific academic needs of individualized disciplines and programs in accordance with respective accreditation guidelines and requirements. Courses are offered in both on-line and face-to-face formats.

Licensing board review courses in pharmacology are offered to students taking national licensing board examinations (USMLE, NBOME). Pharmacology lectures are also tailored to meet the needs of Continuing Medical Education programs in the various fields of health care professions. Dr. Crisp recently published a Step-1 Pharmacology USMLE Flash Card series with The McGraw-Hill Companies.

Dr. Crisp has been recently contracted with Jones and Bartlett Publishing to create a pharmacology textbook with a strong art program accompanied by multimedia e-learning tools for students in the health professions taking a course in pharmacology. This textbook will provide engaging and multidisciplinary student learning opportunities to help foster the mastery and use of pharmacological principles in the medical professions. It is expected to be on the market in early 2016.
