Teaching Interests

Dr. Crisp served as an academic Pharmacologist and full-time faculty member in allopathic and osteopathic medical schools since 1987. She was promoted through the academic ranks and received annual teaching awards from students in accredited medical schools, physical therapy, nurse practitioner, physician assistant and podiatry programs. Dr. Crisp recently retired as Professor and Chair of the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology at Des Moines University and founded Crisp Enterprises: Pharmacology Instruction and Consultation, LLC. She is now pursuing expanded teaching and consulting opportunities on a broader national and international scale.

Research Interests and Scholarly Activity

Dr. Crisp served as a productive investigator for over 25 year has been the recipient of numerous extramural (NIH-funded) and intramural research grants. Dr. Crisp’s primary areas of research focused on investigating age-related differences in the perception and treatment of acute and chronic (neuropathic) pain disorders. She studied the role of oxidative stress in peripheral nerve injury. The goal of these experiments was to determine if antioxidants would be efficacious in treating chronic neuropathic pain disorders. The results of these studies are published in the scientific and medical research journals listed in her Curriculum Vitae.

Pharmacology Instruction and Consultation

Crisp Enterprises is a Limited Liability Company focusing on providing on-line and/or face-to-face medical pharmacology lectures to students in the health care professions. The potential audience for these lectures includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Medical students (MD/DO)
  2. Podiatry students (DPM)
  3. Nursing students (R.N., BSN, MSN, DNP)
  4. Students in Doctor of Physical Therapy programs (DPT)
  5. Students in Occupational Therapy programs (OTR, OTD)
  6. Physician Assistant programs (PA)
  7. Continuing Medical Education programs

Pharmacology lectures are customized to meet the academic needs of individualized programs in accordance with specific accreditation requirements. Licensing board review courses in pharmacology are offered to students taking national licensing board examinations (USMLE, NBOME). Pharmacology lectures are also tailored to meet the needs of Continuing Medical Education programs in the various fields of health care professions.

Consultation Experience and Service

Consultation services are provided in all areas of medical pharmacology, educational/curricular design and development and legal expertise.
